T’puram: City police have taken around 150 habitual offenders into preventive detention as part of a special drive aimed at strengthening law and order and preventing criminal activities in the city.The action was carried out under Operation Dark Hunt, a special initiative launched on the directions of city police commissioner K Karthick. The operation targets habitual offenders whose names are included in rowdy history sheets at various police stations.Police said the detainees are being questioned to verify their criminal backgrounds, current activities and possible involvement in other offences. The drive is intended to identify repeat offenders and prevent crimes before they occur, thereby enhancing public safety and maintaining law and order.Among those taken into preventive detention are several known history-sheeters, including Airport Danny, Pokkam Shajahan, Singam Dhanesh, Pallan Suresh, Manoj Shekhar, Pallan Sajeev, Pallan Suni and Inas. Police said the detainees include individuals who had completed their detention period under the Kaapa as well as those whose entry-ban period had expired. The accused were shifted to Thiruvananthapuram correctional home.Screening and verification procedures are currently being carried out at respective police stations. Officials are examining the activities of the detainees and gathering information regarding any fresh criminal involvement.Karthick said similar preventive measures would continue in the coming days. He also said enforcement activities would be intensified under ‘Operation Toofan’, a separate initiative aimed at curbing the spread of narcotic drugs and preventing drug-related offences within the city police limits.
