Pune: Maha Metro and PMPML are working towards introducing a “one journey, one ticket” system to enable seamless travel across train and bus services. The initiative aims to eliminate the need for commuters to purchase separate tickets for different modes of public transport.At present, the lack of a unified platform forces passengers to buy separate tickets for Metro and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses. To address this, both agencies are examining technical options to develop a common ticketing system, including integrated smart cards that can be used across all public transport services in the city.A joint meeting was held recently by the authorities from both the utilities to discuss various issues that could enhance the commuters’ services. Officials said exploring the options for “one journey, one ticket” were in advanced stages.In addition to integrated ticketing, Maha Metro and PMPML are also focusing on strengthening feeder connectivity. Around 25 feeder bus routes currently operate from various Metro stations, with plans to introduce more routes in phases over the coming months. PMPML has also requested space near Metro stations to establish dedicated bus stops.Metro services on the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi corridor are expected to commence in the next few months, adding more than 20 stations to the existing network of 30 stations across two operational routes. “Key stations will offer interconnectivity not only between Metro lines but also with PMPML buses, autorickshaws and MSRTC services,” a Maha Metro official said.Regular commuters stressed the need for improved last-mile connectivity, urging the authorities to deploy smaller buses to serve areas within a 2-3km radius of Metro stations. “This will reduce dependence on private vehicles for accessing Metro services,” a commuter said.Metro partners with auto group for feeder connectivityMaha Metro has partnered with an autorickshaw federation to introduce feeder services in its bid to further enhance last-mile connectivity. The initiative has been launched from the PCMC Metro station and is expected to expand to other stations soon.The autorickshaws will operate on routes connecting PCMC station to areas such as Pimple Saudagar, Kalewadi Phata, Chafekar Chowk and Chikhali.
