Thiruvananthapuram: Poojappura police arrested a 22-year-old man under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly assaulting a minor girl while she was returning home after attending tuition classes.The accused has been identified as Amal Krishan, a native of Aryanad.The incident took place on Aishwarya Residents Association Road at Tirumala around 7.30pm on Friday. The girl was on her way home after tuition when the accused allegedly subjected her to physical abuse. Following the incident, he reportedly went into hiding.Based on a complaint by the survivor’s family, Poojappura police registered a case under relevant provisions of Pocso Act and launched an investigation. A special team led by Cantonment assistant commissioner of police V Jayachandran traced and apprehended the accused after an extensive search.The arrest was carried out by Poojappura sub-inspector Balu along with civil police officers Abhilash and Arun. The accused was later produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
