A US-based AI startup called Joi AI has grabbed attention online after announcing that it is hiring “masturbation consultants” for a paid testing role. The company said selected applicants would test a new feature and share feedback about their experience.
The unusual job listing quickly led to jokes, memes and reactions across social media. Many users responded with humour, while others questioned the idea and debated whether such jobs should even exist.
Company Offers Paid Testing Role
Joi AI shared the opening in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying it was looking for 10 people to test its “Daily Guided Masturbation” feature. According to the company, selected candidates would be paid $2,000 a month, which is around Rs 1.9 lakh.
The post read, “we’re hiring 10 Masturbation Consultants $2,000/month to test our new Daily Guided Masturbation feature and document the effects on stress, sleep and mood yes it’s real yes you get paid.”
The company said participants would need to test the feature regularly and provide feedback on areas like mood, stress, sleep and the overall experience.

Internet Reacts With Jokes And Disbelief
Many users reacted with humour after reading about the unusual role. A user commented, “I’m Really Good At It And I Have Over A Decade Of Experience.”
Another wrote, “FINALLY a job I’m qualified for.” A user joked, “Who says there won’t be jobs after AI?”
Someone else commented, “Hand jobs are now actual jobs lol.”
Not everyone supported the idea. A person wrote, “This is a sin!” Another user criticised the concept and said, “stop promoting insanity daily masturbation rapidly depletes your jing (sexual energy), the battery of life and your most precious inner power excessively depleting it with daily masturbation will cause fatigue, depression, anxiety, and all kind of other problems.”
Company Confirms The Listing Is Real
Speaking to media outlet Decrypt, Joi AI’s Head of Brand and Communication Julie Levin confirmed that the hiring post was genuine. She said the company had already received strong interest after sharing the listing online.
According to Levin, the month-long role is open to applicants above the age of 18 in the US and the UK. Levin described the ideal candidates as “articulate, observant, and impossible to blush.”
She also said applicants should be able to explain sensations “better than a sommelier describes a wine.” “The role involves testing and giving feedback on the mood-matched AI voice-guided sessions, and providing feedback on the overall user experience,” Levin told Decrypt.
According to the company, participants will complete questionnaires and share feedback on things like whether the AI voice matched the intended mood, how engaging the session felt and whether there were any technical problems.
Levin also explained that Joi AI is trying to make AI companionship more personal and interactive rather than treating it as only a novelty experience.
Joi AI’s X profile describes the platform as a service that allows users to chat, role-play and create visual content with AI-generated fantasy characters.
