A mother’s warning about hidden cake decorations has started a conversation among parents about the safety of children’s birthday cakes. She shared her family’s experience on Instagram after her young son accidentally swallowed a metal wire that had been placed inside a cake decoration.
The incident, according to the mother, took place during her child’s birthday celebrations. What began as a joyful occasion soon turned into a medical emergency, leaving the family worried about their son’s health.
Birthday Celebration Took An Unexpected Turn
The woman said her son was excited to see a bowling-themed birthday cake. However, she claimed that the bakery in Thane that prepared the cake had used metal wire to support the decorations without informing the family.
Sharing her experience on Instagram, she wrote, “This is the video I never thought I’d be making. 31st May — we celebrated Reyaansh’s birthday eve. It was everything I dreamed of. The decorations, the cake, the family, the love. 1st June — his actual 3rd birthday — we were at the hospital. A bakery in Thane used metal wire inside the cake decorations without informing us. Despite knowing my child would eat the cake.”
She further added, “My 2 year old son swallowed that wire. We spent his birthday not knowing what would happen next. This is our story. And after 48 hours — you won’t believe what came out of his body.”
Family Waited Anxiously For Updates
In a follow-up video, the mother claimed that an X-ray showed two metal pieces in her son’s intestine. She later shared that both pieces passed naturally without the need for surgery.
Following the incident, she urged parents to ask bakers whether any wires, toothpicks or plastic supports had been used inside cake decorations.
“Always ask if decoration pieces are fully edible and safe for children,” she advised.
She also reminded parents not to assume that decorative elements on cakes are automatically safe for toddlers and young children.

Many users expressed relief that the child had recovered safely while also sharing their concerns.

“Lesson learnt. Not to choose cakes which has non edible items for kids under 5 least,” a person commented.
Someone said, “Honestly opting for such cakes itself is a mistake. I mean do u realise the amount of colour ur kid ingested.”
A comment read, “Please name the shop and baker so that none of us make the mistake of hiring them and then our loved also suffer like this.”
