Times News NetworkKanpur: Women from rural areas and members of self-help groups have been entrusted with the responsibility of manufacturing the national flag under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission to support the success of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.The initiative is not only ensuring the availability of Tricolours for government departments and local events but has also emerged as an important source of livelihood for rural women.In Kanpur Nagar district, 734 women associated with 174 self-help groups have been engaged in the flag-making initiative. Through their collective efforts, more than 1.5 lakh Tricolours have been manufactured in the district so far.The initiative has provided women with an opportunity to earn an income while contributing to the national campaign and strengthening their participation in rural economic activities.This work is proceeding rapidly across various parts of the district, notably, women from the Prerna and Pragati Self-Help Groups, operating in the Singhpur area of Kalyanpur block, are also dedicatedly engaged in the task of making the Tricolour.Expressing their enthusiasm, the women members of the Prerna Self-Help Group said, “Crafting the Tricolour—a symbol of the nation’s honour—with our own hands is a matter of great pride for us. This work has given us the opportunity to become financially self-reliant”.Project director Alok Kumar Singh said that women associated with the Livelihood Mission had been trained to make the tricolour according to the prescribed size and standards of the national flag. They had also been provided with the necessary raw materials.He stated that these flags, crafted by women, would be sent to all government departments and administrative offices in the district. The women would receive payment for their work directly into their accounts, leading to a direct increase in their income.Appreciating this effort by the women, district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said, “Women from the Rural Livelihood Mission are playing a pivotal role in making the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a success on the occasion of Independence Day. This initiative is an excellent example of women’s empowerment and self-reliance.”
