Surat: A 29-year-old woman from Salabatpura has accused her husband of pronouncing instant triple talaq twice and forcing her out of the matrimonial home following a dispute over clothes purchased for their infant son.According to a complaint lodged at Salabatpura police station, the incident occurred on Sept 6, 2025, when the woman’s husband bought a pair of clothes for their infant son. The complainant alleged that her father-in-law disapproved of the purchase and instructed his son to divorce her. She claimed that in the presence of her maternal uncle and aunt, her husband pronounced triple talaq twice and forcibly evicted her from the house. Since then, she has been residing with her parents.The woman stated that she was widowed in 2021 after her first husband died during the Covid-19 pandemic. In March 2023, she married the accused after he allegedly assured her that he would accept and care for the two children from her first marriage.According to the complaint, her father provided furniture, gold ornaments and household articles at the time of the marriage. About three months after the wedding, she became pregnant. She alleged that her husband and in-laws subsequently pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. When she refused, they allegedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment and forced her to leave the matrimonial home.The complainant said that following the intervention of relatives, a compromise was reached and she returned to her husband’s home when she was seven months pregnant. She later gave birth to a son. However, she alleged that the harassment continued even after the child’s birth, with her husband and in-laws frequently threatening her with divorce.Following her complaint, police registered a case against the husband and other family members under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
