Hasan Mahmud on Thursday became the first Bangladesh bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in Australia during the first Test in Darwin.
The 26-year-old quick accounted for Travis Head, Jake Weatherald, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Lyon to achieve the milestone. Mahmud ended with six for 55 as the home team got skittled out for 198.
Across his 15 Tests, this was the third time Mahmud picked five wickets or more. He had nabbed five against India too, during the Chennai Test in 2024. His previous best innings effort was five for 43. He has also played 26 ODIs and T20Is.
In June this year, Mahmud played for English County side Kent Cricket Club, taking 12 wickets in just two matches, including a First-Class career-best of six for 69 against Lancashire.
A resident of Laxmipur, a district in Chattogram, Mahmud emerged through the age-group teams of Chattogram, before finding a place in the Bangladesh Under-19 team for the World Cup in 2018. He picked nine wickets in the tournament.
