Davanagere: Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan said engineering institutions carry a crucial responsibility in nurturing problem-solvers, innovators, ethical leaders and nation-builders capable of steering India towards technological advancement and global leadership.Addressing the inauguration of the platinum jubilee celebrations of UBDT College of Engineering on Friday, Radhakrishnan said India is witnessing a transformative era driven by technology, innovation and the strength of its youth. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he said initiatives such as Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, Skill India, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy, and Atmanirbhar Bharat are opening unprecedented opportunities for young engineers, researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs. “India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 will largely depend on contributions from engineers, scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs,” he added.The Vice President said the institution’s 75-year journey reflects vision, perseverance, academic excellence, and service to society. He noted that great institutions are built over generations through the efforts of visionary founders, committed teachers, dedicated administrators, hardworking students and distinguished alumni. “The vision of Brahmappa Devendrappa Tavanappanavar and the support of Maharaja Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar enabled the establishment of this institution,” he said.Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot said technical education plays a vital role in achieving the goal of Developed India 2047. He said youth must emerge as problem-solvers, innovators and entrepreneurs. “It is a matter of pride that UBDT Engineering College is celebrating its 75-year journey. Its contribution to nation-building, technological progress and empowerment of young talent is significant,” he said.The governor added that Karnataka remains at the forefront of education, information technology and innovation in the country. “Engineering institutions not only impart technical education but also promote innovation, research, leadership and social commitment. Over the past 75 years, this institution has strengthened technical education, research and human values,” he said.Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, seer of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, said the college has produced distinguished personalities. He urged students to focus on skill upgradation, reskilling and startups. He noted that around 45% of the country’s startups are from Karnataka. “This share must grow further. We must move ahead by embracing new technologies,” he said.Prof S Vidyashankar, vice-chancellor of VTU, said the growth of UBDT College of Engineering has been strongly supported by its alumni. He added that after the college came under VTU’s jurisdiction, improved facilities have led to increased student admissions.SS Mallikarjun, MLA MC Sudhakar, MPs Prabha Mallikarjun and Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, AICTE former chairman Prof TG Sitharam, and others were present.
