A woman spent years paying for AC repairs after repeated gas leaks and cooling issues, only to learn that the real problem had been hiding in plain sight.

A mechanic’s diagnosis surprised many online
Many people assume that when an air conditioner keeps breaking down, the problem lies with the machine itself. But one woman recently shared how she spent years paying for repairs before learning that the real issue was something entirely different.
Her post on X (formerly Twitter) has now started a discussion online about how a building’s surroundings can sometimes affect appliances more than people realise.
A Mechanic Spotted The Real Issue
The woman explained that her office AC seemed to develop problems every year. According to her, the troubles usually started around March.
In her post, she wrote, “Rs 40,000 AC or just scrap? Turns out location changed everything! I used to think my AC was ‘unlucky.’ Every March, a new drama began. Sometimes gas leakage, sometimes zero cooling.”
She said mechanics would visit regularly, charge repair fees and often suggest that major parts of the AC were failing.
“Trusting them every time, I kept spending money, thinking it would finally run perfectly… But the result was always the same – disappointment,” she wrote.
Things changed when a different technician inspected the outdoor unit of the air conditioner.
According to her, the mechanic told her, “Sir, your AC isn’t faulty… it’s just working beyond its limits!”
The Location Became The Problem
The technician reportedly found that the office building was located close to a drainage system. The woman said the mechanic explained that gases from the drain were slowly damaging important parts of the AC.
She wrote, “Right behind my office, there’s a drainage system. Gases like Hydrogen Sulfide and Ammonia were constantly mixing into the air. These gases slowly corroded the condenser and copper pipes.”
The situation was made worse by moisture and humidity, which reportedly caused rust to build up over time.
According to the post, this eventually led to cooling issues, gas leaks and repeated repair expenses.
The woman summed up the experience by saying, “Now I understand – sometimes the problem is not the machine… it’s the location.”
Social Media Users Shared Their Views
The post attracted plenty of reactions from social media users. A person wrote, “This shouldn’t have happened! There was no point in buying such an expensive AC! Money wasted! We should have filed a case against the company!”
Another user said, “Never thought air quality outside could directly impact AC performance like this. Really informative.”
A person commented, “A Rs 40,000 AC is a victim of sewer gases. First, consider the location, then buy the AC.”

Several people related to the frustration of spending money on repeated repairs. A user wrote, “I bought such an expensive AC and it ended up as scrap. There was no point in investing so much money.”
Not everyone was convinced by the explanation. A commenter said, “Sometimes the product turns out to be very bad, and the company has no solution for it.”
