VinFast could add a new electric scooter named Rasad to its portfolio in the near future judging by the patent images

VinFast has patented the design of a new electric scooter called the Rasad in India – raising speculation that the Vietnamese manufacturer could be preparing another two-wheeler for the local market as its existing global range will arrive in the near future. The registered design depicts a relatively large and muscular scooter which should ensure sporty handling characteristics.

VinFast has not yet confirmed plans for a production version yet but India could be one of the first markets to receive the model. The patent gives an early indication of the scooter’s overall character. Compared to VinFast’s smaller electric scooters, the Rasad has substantially larger proportions and a more substantial body similar to maxi scooters.

It could aim to offer good initial acceleration and could target weekend riders looking for an electric alternative with high cruising speeds. If confirmed, it would place the scooter in a substantially different category from VinFast’s lower-spec electric models and put it alongside some of the faster electric scooters available in India. The battery pack is another major unknown.

The company’s existing electric scooters include models equipped with LFP battery technology and the Rasad may follow the same route as IP67 rating is a possibility. The images show a sculpted front apron, an angular LED headlamp assembly and a tall windscreen along with a wide and stepped seat and a rear section carrying a raised grab rail. Twin rear shock absorbers sit exposed on either side of the wheel alongside what looks like conventional telescopic front forks.

VinFast has gone for a fairly substantial chassis rather than a compact commuter platform for this design. Styling cues including the split taillight cluster and the boxy underseat storage area hinted at around the floorboard indicate VinFast is positioning Rasad as a premium offering within its scooter range. Disc brakes would be a logical expectation for a scooter capable of three digit speeds alongside the availability of ABS.

VinFast could equip the Rasad with a comprehensive electronics package if it reaches production. The company’s existing connected scooters offer smartphone integration, GPS-based functions, trip information, battery monitoring and vehicle diagnostics. VinFast has been expanding its battery-swapping infrastructure in Vietnam and it will be interesting to see whether the Rasad will utilise a removable battery system or not.
