Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) will confer degrees on 30,886 students at its 21st convocation ceremony to be held on July 17. The ceremony will be presided over by Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of the lone open university of the state, Anandiben Patel, while Padma Shri Malini Awasthi will deliver the convocation address as the chief guest.Talking to media on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Prof Satyakam said the university would award 26 gold medals, including 20 to female students and six to male students, reflecting the strong academic performance of women students. Degrees will be conferred on students who qualified in Dec 2025 and June 2026 examinations, including 17,788 male and 13,098 female students. The degrees will also be made available digitally through DigiLocker.The Chancellor’s Gold Medal will be awarded to Ramya Singh, a BSc student from study centre, Ambedkar Nagar, for emerging as the best-performing learner across all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She will also receive three other gold medals, making her the highest medal recipient at this year’s convocation.Prof. Satyakam said higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay and minister of state for higher education Rajni Tiwari would attend the ceremony as distinguished guests.The Governor will also honour winners of speech, painting and storytelling competitions organised in villages adopted by the university. Kits will be distributed to Anganwadi centres on behalf of the varsity, while cultural performances by students, a Mother-Daughter Conference and the felicitation of an outstanding teacher will also form part of the programme.
