Madikeri: The hanging bridge near the Kanive Ramalingeshwara Temple is now closed. The bridge, which was damaged during floods caused by heavy rains seven years ago, remains unrepaired. Every rainy season, farmers, students, and workers employed in the Kushalnagar industrial area have to risk their lives while using the bridge.Whenever the water flow in the Cauvery and Harangi rivers increases, crossing the dilapidated bridge becomes a dangerous ordeal. The tahsildar has now closed the bridge, and the Hebbale gram panchayat has erected a warning signboard. However, some youngsters continue to ignore the warning and walk across the bridge to take photographs. The previous deputy commissioner and MLA had visited the site and assured residents that the bridge would be repaired, but those promises have remained unfulfilled.
