The annual Rangam (soothsayer ritual) at the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad on Monday (August 3, 2026), saw the oracle forecast heavy rainfall across Telangana during the year, while warning of fire incidents, accidents and possible loss of lives. The oracle also expressed displeasure over an unfulfilled promise concerning the Goddess’ idol.
What is Rangam?
Rangam, one of the key rituals associated with the Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu celebrations, is traditionally held on the Monday following the main festivities. During the ritual, the oracle stands atop an earthen pot and delivers the Bhavishyavani (prophecy), which traditionally touches upon rainfall, agriculture, public welfare and developments expected during the year.
Heavy rains forecast
A significant part of the prophecy centred on the weather, with the oracle forecasting heavy rains and urging people to exercise caution. She indicated that some spells of rainfall could be particularly intense and also referred to the possibility of uneven distribution, with some places receiving inadequate rain even as others witness heavy downpours.
The oracle also warned of fire-related incidents and accidents and cautioned that some incidents could result in loss of lives. Referring to growing conflicts among people, she said people were increasingly fighting among themselves and warned that such confrontations could have serious consequences.
Be responsible towards parents
The prophecy also touched upon social issues, particularly the conduct of young people and their relationship with their parents. The oracle called for the youth to be guided on the right path and encouraged to live in harmony with one another. She also criticised those who, after becoming successful, leave their parents behind in their native villages and become arrogant, urging them to shed their pride and remain mindful of their responsibilities towards their parents.
Unfulfilled promise
The oracle also expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which certain rituals and offerings were being performed. While saying that she continued to provide advice, solutions and blessings to devotees, she indicated that some obligations towards the Goddess were not being fulfilled to her satisfaction. Reiterating her displeasure over an unfulfilled promise concerning the Goddess’ idol, the oracle warned temple representatives against delaying the matter further and sought its fulfilment within 3 to 6 months.
