Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray will tour all constituencies where party MPs have defected to review the ground situation. This development came amid speculation that six of his party MPs are set to join the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Uddhav Thackeray will begin his tour from North East Mumbai on Sunday, which is represented by Sanjay Dina Patil, one of the six MPs who failed to attend a parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi. He will interact with party workers and review the political situation on the ground.
Shiv Sena UBT Crisis LIVE Updates
The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief will conduct subsequent tours in every constituency where party MPs are believed to switch to the NDA. Earlier, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister called the defecting MPs “traitors”, while accusing the BJP of trying to destroy the Shiv Sena.
Speaking at the 60th foundation day of the united Shiv Sena on Friday, Uddhav slammed the rebel MPs for claims that they feared the party might merge with the Congress. “If we didn’t merge with the BJP despite being an ally for 30 years, how can we merge with the Congress?” he remarked.
He also offered apologies to voters for electing these MPs and even offered to step down from the position of party chief if someone else was willing to take the responsibility.
Thackeray Sena Faces Rebellion
His remarks came amid growing buzz over ‘Operation Tiger’, which refers to the rebellion by six MPs who are expected to join the Shinde Sena. Sources told CNN-News18 that the rebel Shiv Sena-UBT leaders will join the Shinde faction on Sunday, June 21.
The rebel MPs arrived in Delhi on Saturday and are expected to stay at an undisclosed location in Delhi. The rebellion brought back the memories of the party’s split in 2022, when Eknath Shinde led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray while serving as a senior Shiv Sena leader, triggering the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) initiated disciplinary proceedings against Nagesh Aashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar and Bhausaheb Wakchaure for failing to attend the parlimentary party meeting in Delhi.
Shiv Sena-UBT leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday shared a cryptic message on social media, saying, “Kuch log kuttey toh hoty hain, lekin wafa’daar nahi hote (Some people may be dogs, but they are not loyal)”
