Times News NetworkKanpur: Police arrested two cyber fraudsters, Sumit Kashyap and Naveen Srivastava, for allegedly adding unsuspecting people to WhatsApp groups and cheating them in the name of stock market trading and IPO investments.The arrests were made by the Rawatpur police and the cyber team (West Zone) after cyber fraud complaints were received on the NCRP portal. Police said the investigation revealed that the accused provided bank accounts used in cyber fraud.The analysis of five bank accounts identified so far revealed a total of 12 complaints on the NCRP portal, in which suspicious transactions of approximately Rs 14 crore were found. Police said the accused opened bank accounts in the names of various individuals and provided them to a person based in Delhi, where money obtained through cyber fraud was transferred into these accounts.Attempts were then made to eliminate the money trail by withdrawing the amount through cheques and ATMs. Preliminary investigation also revealed that the accounts used were linked to cases related to online gaming apps and trading and IPO fraud, the police said.Sumit Kashyap was previously jailed from Gurugram, Haryana, in a cyber fraud case, and a total of 4 cases were registered against him. Both accused were residing in the Rawatpur police station area and had ben involved in such cyber crimes for a long time.The forensic examination of the recovered mobile phones and other digital evidence is being conducted, which the police said was expected to reveal information about other bank accounts and facts related to the network. Legal proceedings were being initiated against the arrested accused and they were being produced before the court, the police added.
