Telangana CM lays foundation stone for Amazon Web Services’ data centre, wants global giant to invest ₹1 lakh crore

Inviting industry majors to invest is Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asserted that his Government is firm on promoting the State as a model of development for the country as well as to the world in the coming days.

The government has launched the Telangana Rising 2047 policy along with exclusive policies for different sectors like health and education in this direction. The policies are yielding results attracting global majors to make investments in the State. “Policy paralysis and pick and chose method of granting permissions, incentives and others will not benefit the State. We have therefore come up with sector specific policies to ease the difficulties of investors,” he said.

The Chief Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the data centre of global major Amazon Web Services in Bharat Future City, in Hyderabad periphery, on Wednesday (July 15, 2026). The development follows a framework agreement signed with Amazon Web Services during Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025 for an investment of ₹60,000 crore.

Recalling Amazon’s commitment of investing US $7 billion in the coming 14 years, he said it would not suffice the requirements of the State which was positioning itself as a US $1 trillion economy by 2034 and US $3 trillion by 2047. “I want Amazon to invest ₹1 lakh crore. We can reach our goal of US $1 trillion economy then,” he said.

Mr. Reddy said he was prepared to consider the requests made by the investors, including Amazon, for their business expansion and other needs and had hence decided to hold meeting every month to review the situation and dispose of the requests. He asked former Chief Secretary and present Government advisor K. Ramakrishna Rao to convene monthly meetings with Amazon to clear their requests.

He explained to the participants about the plans to develop Bharat Future City as world class destination for investments as well as infrastructure and said Amazon would forthwith become the anchor industry to attract investments from the Fortune 500 companies to the upcoming city. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Viksit Bharat 2047 for making the country US $30 trillion economy by 2047. We are positioning Telangana to contribute at least 10% (US $3 trillion) to the GDP by then,” he said.

This would need the support of the industry and the government was focused on its approach towards attracting more investments into the area. He recalled how the government had developed Telangana Rising 2047 policy designed by experts including the World Bank president Ajay Banga, in its pursuit to become US $3 trillion economy and said the government had created single window mechanisms to instil confidence in investors easing processes and giving permissions to the industry without delays.

He explained about the layered development of the State into CURE, PURE and RARE regions claiming that the government was against making the State to cope up with problems like pollution, traffic congestion and others faced by metro cities. “We are creating facilities for investors so that we can compete with China. I will need your support in this regard,” he said.

Mentioning the fast paced developments in the IT sector, he said Telangana stood out as the most preferred destination for setting up data centre as artificial intelligence gained prominence.

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said the government was not a regulator and acted as a facilitator for the industry. Given the rise in the demand for data centres, it was decided to set up a data centre park at Aloor — where comprehensive facilities including uninterrupted power and water, the critical resources for data centres, were being put in place. “We have embarked upon a mission to make Telangana US $3 trillion economy by 2047. It is not a simple mission and we need partners like Amazon in our pursuit,” he said.
