Mysuru: Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Director Dr B Dinesha on Sunday said the state govt has initiated several measures to improve healthcare delivery, strengthen infrastructure and provide better facilities and protection for doctors serving in rural areas.He was speaking after felicitating outstanding doctors with the Vaidya Rathnashree Awards, presented as part of the Doctors’ Day celebrations organised at the Institution of Engineers auditorium in Mysuru.Dr Dinesha said the govt is encouraging meritorious doctors to serve in rural areas, where they can make a meaningful difference while gaining valuable professional experience. Serving in villages also helps doctors build strong relationships with local communities, he noted.Recalling his own journey, he said he hailed from a rural background and that his service in rural areas had played a significant role in his career and professional growth.Highlighting emerging health concerns, Dr Dinesha said a growing number of software professionals below the age of 40 are suffering from heart ailments due to work-related stress, lack of exercise and unhealthy dietary habits. The increasing consumption of junk food has also contributed to the trend, he added.He advised people working in high-pressure professions to adopt healthier lifestyles by consuming a balanced diet and using traditional cooking oils such as groundnut and coconut oil.Regular physical activities like brisk walking for 40 minutes and 7 hours of quality sleep are a must for stress management. Such lifestyle changes and daily habits reduce the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes and hypertension, he explained.He also urged people to avoid processed and deep-fried foods and instead consume naturally available foods, vegetables, millets and cereals, which contribute to better health and longevity.Superintendent of Jayadeva Hospital’s Mysuru unit Dr KS Sadananda, director of JSS Hospital Dr CP Madhu, Dr V Laksminarayan, Anweshana Seva Trust president Dr MGR Urs, and Dr HB Rajshekhar were present.
