In a strong crackdown on noise pollution, Sonbhadra police on Tuesday crushed 620 illegal noise-making devices, including 70 modified silencers, 450 pressure horns and 100 hooters at Swarn Jayanti Chowk (Badhauli Crossing) in Robertsganj, sending a clear message against unlawful honking and deafening exhausts.Acting under the statewide traffic campaign of the Uttar Pradesh Traffic Directorate, the drive was carried out on the directions of Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma. During the drive, police removed and seized 70 modified silencers, 450 pressure horns and 100 hooters from vehicles in past 90 days.ASP (Headquarters) Anil Kumar, who lead the team of officials including CO Traffic Raj Sonkar and CO City Randhir Kumar Mishra to hold this show publicly to give broad message, said that a total of 620 illegal devices were destroyed as per rules.Officials said that since April 18, joint teams of the traffic police and district police had been conducting special vehicle checking every Saturday and Sunday across Sonbhadra. Vehicles using modified silencers, pressure horns and unauthorized hooters were stopped, checked and penalized. Police also warned drivers and vehicle owners found playing loud, obscene, abusive or provocative songs in public places, saying such conduct disturbs public peace and violates social decency.Officers appealed to motorists not to install modified silencers, pressure horns or hooters, and not to create noise nuisance through high-volume music. They said violators would face strict legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant provisions of law.
