JAISALMER: The Additional District and Sessions Court, Pokaran, has sentenced six accused to life imprisonment with rigorous imprisonment in a nine-year-old case involving an armed attack and an attempt to murder.The court, presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr Mahendra Kumar Goyal, also imposed a fine of Rs 1,56,500 on each convict.The case dates back to July 4, 2017, when an armed group allegedly attacked a family at their agricultural field near their residential dhani in Mehrangarh Rajmathai village, under Phalsund police station limits in Jaisalmer district.According to the prosecution, the accused were armed with guns, swords, axes and other sharp-edged weapons. The complainant, Kayam Khan, alleged that the accused attacked his family over a dispute concerning their agricultural land.During the attack, accused Muse Khan allegedly fired a gun, injuring Nekhu Khan in his right hand. Another accused, Rasool Khan, allegedly fired at the complainant’s daughter, Bheekho, causing a serious injury to her right eye.The accused also allegedly assaulted another daughter, Rajo, who was pregnant at the time. The family members were subsequently beaten before people from the surrounding area reached the spot and intervened.Following the complaint, Phalsund police registered a case, arrested the accused and conducted an investigation. The prosecution produced 26 witnesses and 36 documentary pieces of evidence before the court.After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the evidence, the court held Muse Khan, Birbal Khan, Gope Khan, Nasir Khan, Shakoor Khan and Rasool Khan guilty and sentenced all six to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 1,56,500 each.Proceedings against another accused, Jeevraj Khan, were dropped following his death during the pendency of the case.The case was argued on behalf of the prosecution by Additional Public Prosecutor Samandar Singh Rathore.
