Mum on Exit, Siddaramaiah Praises Nehru as Karnataka Leadership Change Looms
Amid strong indications of a leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday avoided commenting directly on reports of his resignation and said he would speak on the issue “tomorrow”.
Speaking publicly for the first time after speculation intensified over a possible power shift, Siddaramaiah instead praised India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, saying Nehru introduced schemes that helped develop the country in a scientific manner.
Sources indicated that Karnataka could soon witness a major leadership transition, with DK Shivakumar likely to replace Siddaramaiah as the next chief minister.
According to sources, Siddaramaiah is expected to step down on May 28 and may later be moved to the Rajya Sabha as part of a broader balancing exercise within the Indian National Congress.
The Congress leadership is also reportedly considering appointing multiple Deputy Chief Ministers to balance caste and regional equations in the state.
Sources said the proposed arrangement may include representatives from Dalit, Minority, Lingayat and OBC communities, although discussions are still at an early stage.
Siddaramaiah has also reportedly been assured a role in selecting key ministers and shaping Karnataka’s future political structure. Reports further suggest that his son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, could be accommodated in the cabinet.
