The upcoming Royal Enfield Tada Plant in Andhra Pradesh will add EV production muscle as volumes surge past existing limits due to growing popularity

Flying Flea electric motorcycles may eventually roll out from Andhra Pradesh as Royal Enfield prepares its first major manufacturing expansion outside Tamil Nadu. The new facility planned at Tada near Tirupati will support increasing demand, future EVs and larger global ambitions as it will supplement the existing production units near Chennai.

Royal Enfield’s current factories are running close to full capacity after the brand crossed one million annual motorcycle sales for the second consecutive year. Its domestic demand across the 350 cc range remains extremely strong while exports and larger capacity motorcycles further escalate influence on production lines big times.

The company now wants annual manufacturing capability to rise from around 14.6 lakh motorcycles to nearly 20 lakh units by FY28. As we reported earlier, the expansion work has already started at the Cheyyar facility in Tamil Nadu through a separate Rs. 958 crore investment programme while the Andhra Pradesh project forms the next stage of this scale up.

Unlike several manufacturers moving towards new states, Royal Enfield says Tamil Nadu will remain the centre of its manufacturing operations. Existing facilities at Oragadam, Vallam Vadagal, Tiruvottiyur and Cheyyar continue to play a central role in the company’s production ecosystem – supported by an established supplier network and skilled workforce spread around Chennai.

Electric motorcycles are likely to become among the first major programmes linked to the new facility. Royal Enfield’s entry into EVs has begun with the Flying Flea lineup which has given rise to the C6 while the S6 scrambler is next in line. It is no secret that more battery powered motorcycles are expected later as an electrified Himalayan is also in the works.

New internal combustion products are arriving across nearly every platform too. The Bullet 650, Himalayan 750 and a scrambler based on the 450 cc architecture are already under development while updates for the Continental GT 650 and additional 350 cc motorcycles are also being prepared.

The FY27 investment pipeline is expected to cross Rs. 2,200 crore covering manufacturing expansion, EV programmes and product development activities. Rising sales have given Royal Enfield room to fund much of this growth internally. It must be noted that competition inside the middleweight motorcycle category has intensified rapidly after Triumph and Harley Davidson entered new price brackets through local partnerships.
