Chennai: A 25-year-old history-sheeter died, and his brother sustained severe injuries after a gang attacked them in Manali New Town on Friday night. Police arrested two men and are searching for the other suspects who are absconding.Police said the deceased, Prasanth alias Chinnakonai of Manali New Town, was the prime accused in the murder of Vikrayappan from Vichoor a few years ago. He also had other criminal cases pending against him.Prasanth and his brother Naveen went to Naapalayam in Manali New Town to visit a relative on Friday night. During the visit, they were confronted by a group of men who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.Investigators said an argument broke out between them, and the gang hacked Prasanth with sickles. When Naveen attempted to rescue his brother, he was also attacked.Police said the gang chased them and repeatedly attacked them before fleeing the spot.Residents called Manali New Town police, who found Prasanth dead with multiple slash injuries to the head. Naveen was admitted to Govt Stanley Medical College Hospital.Based on the investigation, police arrested Bharathi alias Bharathiraja alias Kondakkarai Bharathi, 27, and Ezhil alias Ezhilarasan, 21.Police have formed four teams to trace and arrest the remaining suspects. CCTV footage from the locality is being examined to establish the sequence of events and determine the motive behind the attack.
