NOIDA: The woman who filed the complaint against a Noida resident accused of using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Jantar Mantar protest took to Instagram to explain why she approached the police.In the video, Smriti Singh said, “We live in India, we have been raised with core values and ethics. We cannot tolerate language like this.”She added, “I have my own kids on social media, I don’t want my kids or anyone to hear these type of language.”A Zero FIR was subsequently registered at Noida’s Expressway police station against Ruchika Singh on the complaint of Smriti Singh, a Ghaziabad resident.According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that on July 23, the accused used “abusive and objectionable” language against the prime minister during a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, hurting the dignity of the constitutional office and with the intention of spreading hatred and disturbing public peace.Smriti Singh told TOI that she received several videos purportedly showing the accused using abusive language against the prime minister.“I checked her social media accounts and talked to some of her friends and received details of her. I learnt that she is working in a salon and owns a house in Noida. After collecting details, I went to the police station where I showed the videos of her and in the middle of the videos, the cops present covered their ears with their hands,” she said.Based on the complaint, police registered the case under Sections 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 353(1) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 356(1) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Additional deputy commissioner of Police (Noida) Manisha Singh said it was registered as a Zero FIR and would be transferred to Delhi Police for further investigation.A police officer at the Expressway police station told TOI that preliminary investigation found the accused is currently living with her family in Faridabad.“Initial investigation revealed that the accused is living with her family in Faridabad. She purchased a flat in the Noida in January earlier this year and the flat has been locked for several months,” the officer said.Officials said a Zero FIR can be registered at any police station irrespective of jurisdiction and is later transferred to the police station that has authority to investigate the alleged offence.
