Punjab Municipal Corporation Election Results 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a major political boost ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections after registering a sweeping victory in the state’s civic body polls, consolidating its hold over urban and semi-urban regions.

According to data released by the Punjab State Election Commission, the AAP won 954 out of the total 1,977 municipal wards across the state, securing more than 48 per cent of all seats contested. The Congress finished a distant second with 393 wards, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) managed to win 192 wards.

The elections proved to be a major setback for the BJP, which managed to win only 172 wards, while more than 1,100 of its candidates forfeited their security deposits.

Independent candidates also performed strongly, winning 251 wards, while the BSP managed to secure seven seats.

The final results reflected a significant consolidation of support for the ruling AAP in urban local bodies, strengthening the party’s political position less than two years before the next Punjab Assembly elections. The BJP finished behind both independent candidates and the SAD in the overall tally.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann credited the victory to the government’s “development politics” and said voters had rejected what he described as the opposition’s “politics of hatred.”

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people of Punjab for what he called a “spectacular” mandate in favour of the party.

“Congratulations to everyone. Through this historic vote, the people have endorsed the work of the Bhagwant Mann government. We will continue to work for the people in the same way in the future,” Kejriwal said.

Targeting the BJP, Kejriwal said, “The ED party has been wiped out. The ED party, which harassed small traders in Punjab through raids, has now received an answer from the people.”

The opposition parties, however, accused the ruling AAP government of misusing official machinery and abusing power during the conduct of the municipal elections. Congress, BJP and SAD leaders alleged that the ruling party used administrative influence to tilt the elections in its favour.
