Hagaribommanahalli (Vijayanagara): A probationary police sub-inspector posted at Hagaribommanahalli police station was arrested on Wednesday on charges of dowry harassment and attempting to murder his wife. The accused, Dorenayak PR, was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.According to a complaint lodged by the woman’s parents, Dorenayak allegedly concealed his first marriage and struck up a friendship with a woman from Hulikatte village in Davanagere district through Instagram. The two later got married at the Durgambika Temple in Nittuvalli, Davanagere. After the wedding, the couple reportedly stayed in a rented house at Aralihalli in Hagaribommanahalli.The complainant alleged that Dorenayak subsequently refused to live with his wife and subjected her to physical and mental harassment, while demanding Rs 10 lakh as dowry.On Tuesday night, an argument allegedly escalated into violence. Dorenayak is accused of trying to strangle his wife using a wire or cloth and attempting to hang her from a ceiling fan. Believing she had died, he allegedly fled the house.The woman sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Hosapete, where she is undergoing treatment, sources said.Based on the complaint, Hagaribommanahalli police registered a case against the probationary PSI. Acting under the supervision of Kudligi DSP Malleshappa Doddamani, CPI Vikas Lamani and his team arrested the accused. Further investigation is under way.
