Bidar cops bust illegal arms racket, seize pistols & swords worth Rs 6.7 lakh
Bidar City police showcase the illegal arms confiscated from two sellers

Bidar: Bidar City police arrested two men allegedly involved in the illegal sale of country-made pistols and other deadly weapons, and seized five country-made pistols, 26 live rounds, 10 empty cartridges, five swords, and a two-wheeler collectively valued at Rs 6.7 lakh, superintendent of police Pradeep Gunti said on Thursday.Addressing mediapersons at the SP’s office in Mangalapete, Gunti said police received credible information that two individuals were attempting to sell a pistol near Ring Road, close to Jnanasudha School on the city’s outskirts. Acting on the tip-off, a special police team carried out a raid under his supervision.The suspects were detained and searched at the spot. Police recovered five country-made pistols, 26 live rounds, 10 empty cartridge cases and five swords from three bags in their possession.During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that they had procured the weapons in Nanded, Maharashtra, and brought them to Bidar for sale at higher prices. Police also learnt that the duo had test-fired the pistols, using 10 rounds of ammunition.A case under the Arms Act has been registered against four accused in connection with the incident. The two arrested men were remanded to judicial custody, while efforts are under way to trace the remaining suspects. Investigation is in progress.Gunti commended the officers and personnel who took part in the operation.The SP also appealed to the public not to engage in the buying, selling, or transportation of illegal weapons, ammunition, or narcotics, and urged citizens to report such activities to the police.
