Prayagraj: A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl was injured and arrested in a police encounter near the Tikri-Kakraha road under the Puramufti police station limits in Prayagraj late Sunday.According to police, family members of the girl had approached the Puramufti police station on Sunday and lodged a complaint, alleging that the accused, Musharraf, had forcibly taken the minor from her house on June 14 and sexually assaulted her.Police said the family initially hesitated to report the matter but later came forward and narrated the sequence of events.Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Pocso Act.A senior police officer said a team from Puramufti police station was conducting a routine checking operation on the Fatehpur Ghat-Tikri road late Sunday when it spotted the accused. “On seeing the police team, the accused allegedly opened fire. In retaliatory action, he sustained bullet injuries to both legs and was subsequently overpowered and arrested,” police said.Police said they seized a country-made .315-bore pistol, two live cartridges, two spent cartridges and Rs 160 in cash from the spot.
