Many people dream of moving to Dubai for better salaries and career opportunities. But for one young Indian professional, life abroad has also meant dealing with loneliness, homesickness and the challenges of managing everything alone.
In a video shared on Instagram, 23-year-old Anushka Sharma spoke about the emotional side of living away from family. She said that while people often focus on Dubai’s tax-free income, they rarely talk about the personal sacrifices that come with building a life in another country.
She Opens Up About Life Abroad
Introducing herself, Sharma said, “Log Dubai mein sirf tax free salary dekhte hain, par yahan ki real cost koi nahi jaanta. Ghar se door rehna, bimar hone par akele manage karna, aur har festival par sirf video call karna, it’s not easy. But you know what? Trading your comfort zone today for your family’s secure future is always worth it. Hi friends, I’m Anushka Sharma, 23 years old, living alone in Dubai.”
In the caption, she said social media often shows only the exciting parts of living overseas, such as beautiful places, weekend outings and career growth. According to her, these posts rarely reflect what it feels like to stay away from loved ones for long periods.
“The invisible cost of our Dubai dreams. Social media par sabko humara aesthetic lifestyle, weekend views, aur career growth dikhti hai. Par is bade shehar mein rehne ke liye jo price hum pay karte hain, wo sirf ghar se door rehne wale hi samajh sakte hain,” she wrote.
In English, she said that while people notice the lifestyle and career growth, only those living away from home understand the emotional cost of surviving in a big city. She added that missing important family moments, handling daily responsibilities alone after long workdays and suddenly feeling homesick can be mentally exhausting.
She Explains Why It’s Still Worth It
Even after talking about the difficult side of living abroad, Sharma said she believes the sacrifices have a purpose. “But remember why you started. Trading your comfort zone today to build financial independence and a beautiful future for your family back home is the biggest power move. Your sacrifice is building your empire,” she wrote.
Her video struck a chord with many viewers. A user commented, “This is relatable.” Another wrote, “I agree with you.” A person said, “Yes, this is true,” while another added, “This is correct.”
