No difference in CPM over Vizhinjam share transfer: Govindan

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Saturday said there was no difference of opinion in the party over the transfer of Vizhinjam port shares between Adani group and MSC. Govindan said the moot question raised by CPM over the share transfer remained unanswered and yet the govt was trying to create an impression that LDF and Adani group had some deal.“Everybody knows that it was the Oommen Chandy govt that signed agreement with Adani for the port project. Chief minister V D Satheesan and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi should clarify on what basis the Adani group could move ahead with the share transfer plan without prior notice and knowledge of the state govt,” Govindan told reporters in New Delhi.Govindan said many discussions between Adani group and LDF govt must have happened in the past and there was nothing wrong in that. “We are not against discussions. But the question here is how could Adani keep the state govt in the dark over the plans to transfer 49% of shares to another internatonal company,” he said.Meanwhile, LDF convener T P Ramakrishnan also said CPM was not agaist transfer of shares. “What the CPM criticised was the transfer of shares without the knowledge and prior permission of the state govt,” he said. Vizhinjam port plays a crucial role for the future development of kerala and no single company should have a monopoly over the project, he added.
