A new dating scam alert is apparently surfacing its head in Bengaluru, with a social media post claiming that men on dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble are allegedly being targeted through fake cab-payment requests. According to the viral post made on X by user @GharKeKalesh, the scam begins after a match agrees to meet. The woman reportedly asks the man to pay for her cab. She may then claim that she does not trust him and ask him to make the payment directly to the driver in advance.
The catch? There may be no cab booking at all. The post claims scammers edit details such as the fare, driver’s name and other booking information to make the request appear genuine. Once the victim transfers the money, the person allegedly blocks them and disappears.
The post urged dating-app users to be cautious and share the warning with friends. It has since triggered a divided reaction online, with several commenters blaming victims for ignoring what they saw as obvious red flags. One user wrote, “The woman tells him she doesn’t trust him and then asks him to pay the driver in advance.”
Another user took a more mocking approach, writing, “Good, guys who think they can shop girkfriends online deserve this.” Someone else questioned why a person would ask for such a small amount, writing, “Why women always beg for these little amount, are they that broke? Or they just taking dumb people advantage?”

Some comments went even further, with one user writing, “If they are paying for it then they deserve to be scammed”, while another joked, “Uber was sponsored in making this crime😂”. The reactions show how quickly conversations around dating-app scams can turn into debates about both online dating and personal responsibility.
Another user summed up the alleged scam more bluntly: “BC a scam that shows how cheap both the parties are.. !! One is so cheap that she (or maybe he) is cheating people for ₹500 and other one is so desperate that they are so blinded to see this clear red flag.” Another commenter simply wrote, “It’s not a scam. You are dumb if you pay for someone unknown. or even reply to unknown.”
