GURGAON: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned three individuals—Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, and Madhur Virli—in connection with a case involving the circulation of content on social media platforms that is allegedly detrimental to the dignity of women.According to official sources, the Commission took suo motu cognisance of the matter after the content gained traction online and sparked concerns over misogynistic narratives and the portrayal of women in a derogatory manner.The NCW, which is mandated to safeguard and promote the rights of women, has increasingly stepped in to address issues emerging from digital platforms, where offensive and gender-insensitive material often spreads rapidly.The hearing in the matter is scheduled for June 22, 2026, at 4:00pm at the NCW office in New Delhi.The summoned individuals have been directed to appear before the Commission to present their responses and clarify their roles in the creation or dissemination of the content in question.Officials indicated that the Commission will assess whether the material violates legal provisions related to the dignity and safety of women, and recommend further action if required.This development comes amid growing scrutiny of online spaces, where regulatory bodies and civil society alike have raised concerns about the impact of harmful digital content.In recent years, the NCW has handled multiple complaints related to cyber harassment, online abuse, and gender-based trolling.The Commission has reiterated the need for accountability and responsible use of social media, emphasizing that freedom of expression must not come at the cost of respect and dignity for women.The outcome of the hearing is expected to set a precedent for similar cases involving objectionable online content.
