21-year-old assaulted, robbed during ride home
Police have impounded the Ertiga allegedly involved in the crime.

Gurgaon: Returning home after a night shift, a 21-year-old was allegedly robbed at knifepoint, strangled with a towel and forced to reveal his bank details by three men in an Ertiga cab early Friday.Abhinav Mishra, a Concentrix adviser from Faridabad’s Dabua Colony, was waiting for transport near IFFCO Chowk around 1.55am after work when the Ertiga carrying three men stopped beside him. After the driver said he was headed to Faridabad, Mishra accepted the ride and took the front seat as two men were already in the back. His sister, Muskan, told TOI that her brother usually commutes by motorcycle but had not taken it to work that night.“The men in the backseat strangled Abhinav using a towel, making it hard for him to breathe. They pressed a knife against his stomach, slapped, and punched him while demanding his belongings,” she said. The suspects allegedly snatched his phone and forced him to share passwords and banking details. Muskan said Rs 900 was first transferred immediately, followed by another Rs 16,000 from his salary account after they dropped him off, with the PIN also changed. The complaint also states the suspects fled with the victim’s phone, laptop, purse containing Rs 1,800 in cash and documents — driving license, Aadhaar card, PAN card, company ID and his motorcycle registration certificate.“While strangling Abhinav, one of the men addressed another as ‘Rizwan’ and told him to loosen the towel as they still needed the account details,” Muskan alleged. Mishra also heard the name ‘Nazim’ during the incident.Muskan said Mishra managed to share his live location with her around 3am while still in the suspects’ company. The men later dropped him on a road between DLF Phase 5 and Genpact Chowk. Stranded, he sought help from passersby and asked to use their phones, but no one assisted. He walked to the DLF Phase 2 police station and reported the incident. His family grew concerned when he neither returned home nor answered calls. “We were awake all night trying to reach him. It was only after 5am that the police called us,” Muskan said. His uncle, Vinay Shukla, shared the ordeal left him sleepless and shaken.Based on Mishra’s complaint, police registered a case under sections 305 (theft committed in places of human dwelling) and 318(4) (cheating coupled with the dishonest inducement to deliver property, make alterations, or destroy a valuable security). The investigation has been assigned to assistant sub-inspector Rajwanti.According to police sources, three suspects have been arrested and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime has been impounded.
