What was meant to be a routine visit to the court for a land registration turned into an extraordinary spectacle at the Bulandshahr court complex in Uttar Pradesh when a monkey made off with a bag carrying nearly Rs 2 lakh in cash.
The money had reportedly been brought to purchase stamp papers required for a property transaction. Ravindra Lodhi, a colleague of advocate Aamir, was carrying the bag through the court premises when a monkey suddenly snatched it from his hand and darted away. Within moments, the animal had climbed a nearby neem tree, leaving those below scrambling to figure out how to retrieve the bag.
People gathered beneath the tree, shouting and even throwing stones in an attempt to scare the monkey into dropping its prize. The efforts appeared futile as the monkey sat calmly on a high branch, seemingly unbothered by the growing crowd.
Then came an unexpected twist.
The monkey managed to open the bag and began pulling out bundles of currency notes. One after another, the notes floated down from the tree. At first, onlookers were unsure what was raining from above. But as they realised the fluttering papers were Rs 500 notes, the court premises erupted into a frenzy.

Lawyers, court staff, litigants and visitors rushed across the compound, chasing notes as they drifted through the air. Some tried to gather the cash from the ground while others attempted to catch the notes mid-flight. Several people also recorded videos of the bizarre scene, clips of which have since gone viral on social media.
The scramble led to pushing and jostling among those trying to recover the money. After prolonged efforts, the bag was eventually retrieved from the monkey.
However, the cash could not be fully recovered. Of the nearly Rs 2 lakh originally in the bag, around Rs 40,000 was found missing. While some of the money was reportedly returned by people present at the spot, a portion remained unaccounted for.
Monkey-related disturbances are not uncommon in the Bulandshahr court complex, but the sight of a monkey perched atop a tree showering currency notes onto the crowd left many amused, bewildered and astonished.
