MG Plug-in Hybrid SUV To Debut July 16 – 5 & 7-Seater Starlight 560-Based

JSW MG Motor India is all set to introduce a “new energy vehicle” on July 16, 2026. While the carmaker is yet to reveal the product name and details, it’s expected to be a plug-in hybrid SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560 PHEV sold in China. G filed a design patent for the Starlight 560 in India in March, 2026. The upcoming MG plug-in hybrid SUV will debut with a new nameplate next month, while its market launch is expected around the Diwali festive season.

Plug-in Hybrid & EV Powertrains

In China, the Wuling Starlight 560 SUV is available with petrol, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains options. The plug-in hybrid version uses a 1.5L petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack, producing a combined power of 197bhp and 230Nm of torque. The electric iteration, on the other hand, features a 56.7Wh battery pack mated with a front-mounted electric motor. Its outputs stand at 136bhp and 200Nm.

The Starlight 560 PHEV delivers a pure electric range of up to 100km, while the EV version offers a driving range of up to 500km on a single charge. Reports suggest that MG’s new energy vehicle could be offered with both PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) and pure electric powertrain options in India.

Dimensions & Seating Capacity

Similar to the Wuling Starlight 560, the new MG plug-in hybrid SUV is likely to measure 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,755mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,810mm. It could be available in both 5 and 7-seats options. The Starlight 560 offers a boot space of 763-litre.

Key Features

In terms of features, the new MG plug-in hybrid SUV might offer a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, leatherette upholstery, OTA updates, a 6-speaker audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, AC charging support, regenerative braking and many more.

The safety package is likely to include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, electronic stability control, Isofix child seat mounts, rear parking sensors and keyless entry and push button start.
