Mandya: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Mandya district police seized 111 kg ganja, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh and arrested a man from Andhra Pradesh who was allegedly transporting the contraband for sale. According to police, Malavalli sub-division DSP SB Yashwanth Kumar received credible information on Wednesday that a person was transporting ganja in a car from Kunigal towards Maddur along the state highway-33. Acting on the tip-off, the DSP reported the matter at Kestur police station at around 5.30pm. Under the guidance of Mandya SP VJ Shobharani and additional superintendent of police CE Thimmaiah, a special team led by DSP Yashwanth Kumar launched an operation on the Tumakuru-Maddur state highway passing through Kestur town.During vehicle checks conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, the team intercepted a car. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of five plastic bags containing 51 packets of ganja weighing a total of 111 kg. The accused was identified as Srinivas C, a resident of Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh. Police seized the contraband and the vehicle used for transportation under a mahazar. SP Shobharani commended the officers and staff involved in the successful operation.
