Man booked for stalking, demanding sexual favours from Dahisar woman

Mumbai: A 40-year-old woman from Dahisar has lodged a police complaint against a man for stalking her and demanding sexual favours. When she refused, he threatened to “leak” defamatory news reports against her in local news outlets.Dahisar Police registered an FIR of sexual harassment, stalking, intimidation and defamation against the accused.The complainant works at a co-operative credit society and is involved in collection work. Her job typically involves visiting the Dahisar vegetable market area and Borivali RTO area for collection. Her husband works as a tempo driver.According to her complaint, the accused accosted her at the Dahisar vegetable market area in April 2026 while she was at work. He accused her of possessing two autorickshaw permits in her name. He asked her to meet him in the evening alone, if she did not want news reports about her dual permits to appear in local news outlets.The complainant did not go to meet him. On April 27, a news report about her dual permits appeared in a local news publication. The complainant still did not go to meet him even as he stalked her frequently at her place of work.On May 19, she registered a non-cognisable complaint against him at MHB Colony police station as he harassed her near Borivali RTO area.On June 3, she spotted him again at Dahisar vegetable market area and warned him to stop stalking her. At this, he demanded sexual favours from her. Taken aback, the complainant questioned him about his remarks. He then used expletives and made derogatory remarks about her and threatened to get more news stories published about her to defame her.The complainant eventually approached the Dahisar police station and lodged a complaint. An FIR was registered on June 5 and police are probing further.
