Kanpur: A quarrel during a drinking session turned fatal in Orai town of Jalaun district after a labourer allegedly assaulted his co-worker with a wooden plank, leading to the latter’s death during treatment. Police have registered a murder case and arrested the accused.CO Orai Rajiv Sharma said complainant Rajesh Kumar Shrivastava lodged a complaint at Kotwali Orai, stating that his younger brother, Guddu alias Arun Kumar (52), lived in a rented accommodation with Prashant Vishwas in Naya Patel Nagar along the Churkhi Bypass. Both worked in shuttering.On the evening of July 24, the two were consuming alcohol when an argument broke out over an unspecified issue. It is alleged that, in a fit of rage, Prashant Vishwas struck Guddu on the head with a wooden plank, leaving him seriously injured.Guddu was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to Jhansi Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries late on the night of July 26. Following his death, a murder case was registered at Kotwali Orai on the family’s complaint under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Considering the seriousness of the case, two police teams were constituted under the direction of the Superintendent of Police. Using CCTV footage, call detail records (CDR) and other technical evidence, police arrested the accused, Prashant Vishwas.During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that he had attacked Guddu with a wooden plank during the argument while under the influence of alcohol.On receiving information about the incident, the CO City and the Kotwali Orai station in-charge reached the spot. The field unit collected crucial evidence from the scene. Police said further legal proceedings against the accused are being carried out in accordance with the law, and a detailed investigation is underway.
