All retired bureaucrats appointed by outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the administration have been barred from offices ahead of the new government formation in the state.
In a significant administrative move, all the retired officials, who were still serving in government departments, have been instructed not to attend the office from today, NDTV reported, citing sources.
According to sources, the directive- issued by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant- applies across departments and affects retired IAS and state service officers who had been reappointed as advisors, special secretaries, and in other key roles under the outgoing administration.
As per sources, the directive will remain in force until the new government formally takes charge. Several retired officers have already submitted their resignations and vacated government accommodations.
Retired officials had played a prominent role during Banerjee’s tenure, often holding key advisory and executive positions across sectors such as infrastructure, health, and finance.
Additionally, on Tuesday, state government departments have been asked to ensure strict safeguarding of official records. Secretaries have been instructed to keep all important files within departmental premises, while financial advisors have been tasked with compiling detailed inventories.
West Bengal Poll Results
In a sweeping electoral mandate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 seats- well past the two-thirds majority mark- and bringing an end to Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) 15-year rule.
The majority mark in the 294-member House is 148. The result signals a decisive shift in the state’s political direction and ideological balance.
For the first time in decades, West Bengal is poised to be governed by the same party that holds power at the Centre.
