A leopard allegedly carried away a goat from a cattle shed at Soosaipuram near Thalavadi on Friday night (August 14, 2026), triggering fear among farmers in the area.
Farmer Madevan, 48, had tied his goats and cattle in the shed before going to bed. When he checked the shed on Saturday morning (August 15, 2026), he found one of his goats missing. Leopard pugmarks found near the shed indicated that the animal had carried away the goat. He subsequently alerted the Thalavadi Forest Department.
Residents claimed a leopard was preying on goats, cattle, calves and guard dogs in Soosaipuram, Doddagajanur and Hosur areas, which fall under the Thalavadi forest range of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, for the past three years. The leopard is suspected to be sheltering in a stone quarry in the area and emerging at night to hunt livestock before returning to the quarry. Farmers have urged the Forest Department to set up a cage and capture the leopard at the earliest to prevent further attacks on livestock.
