Labour dept plans residential schools for children of 1.6L construction workers
Students will be enrolled from class 6 to 12 in these institutions

Mysuru: The department of labour has stepped up preparations for construction of residential schools for children of construction workers at five different locations in Mysuru district. Students will be enrolled from class 6 to 12 at these institutions.Karnataka State Building Construction Workers’ Welfare Board is funding the project that is expected to benefit the children of around 1.6 lakh registered construction workers, including masons, electricians, plumbers, painters, welders, carpenters and welders in Mysuru district.The state labour department has planned to construct these schools in Choranahalli in Mysuru district, Nanjangud, Periyapatna, KR Nagar and HD Kote taluk. Sites have already been identified at Choranahalli, Haradanahalli, Hallada Manuganahalli, while search is on for suitable land in the remaining two taluks.The labour department plans to construct schools of international standard, with a fully equipped building, playground, digital library, health centre, and science and computer labs among other facilities.Speaking to TOI, Chethankumar, the district labour officer, said his department would begin construction once all the sites are finalised.
