Koppal: Deputy commissioner Suresh B Itnal has recommended the suspension of Kanakagiri town panchayat chief officer Lakshman Kattimani after a preliminary inquiry found prima facie evidence supporting allegations that he demanded Rs 3 lakh from a layout owner for granting layout approval.The recommendation has been sent to the Directorate of Municipal Administration, Bengaluru, based on a report submitted by the Planning Director of the Urban Development Cell.The allegation had drawn widespread attention after being reported by newspapers and television channels. A video purportedly linked to the alleged demand also went viral on social media, following which Kattimani was issued a notice seeking his explanation.The preliminary inquiry report stated that, despite holding a responsible public position, Kattimani allegedly failed to adhere to official duties and professional ethics. It noted prima facie evidence that he demanded money, acted in a manner unbecoming of a government servant and engaged in corrupt practices while discharging his official responsibilities.Based on the findings, the deputy commissioner recommended that Kattimani be suspended pending a detailed inquiry under the Karnataka Civil Services Rules. He has also been relieved of his duties as chief officer and directed to report to the competent authority.Meanwhile, to ensure smooth administration and uninterrupted public services at the Kanakagiri Town Panchayat, Rajasekhar, executive officer of the Kanakagiri Taluk Panchayat, has been given additional charge as chief officer on a temporary basis until further orders.
