Haveri: The intensive revision of electoral rolls in Haveri district has reached a crucial stage, with 1,08,641 voter names proposed for deletion following door-to-door verification by booth-level officers across the district’s six Assembly constituencies. The statewide exercise, undertaken on the Election Commission of India’s directions, involved verification of voter details, distribution of enumeration forms and digitisation of collected information, which officials said progressed smoothly.As of June 16, 2026, Haveri district had 13,35,342 registered voters. The review found that several individuals had died, permanently migrated to other districts or states, had their names enrolled at more than one location, or could not be traced.According to the data collected, 1,08,641 names were proposed for deletion, including 55,694 due to permanent migration, 31,805 owing to death, 16,636 duplicate entries, 4,107 cases where information could not be collected during house visits or the person was absent, and 399 for other reasons. Officials said these findings indicated that over one lakh listed voters were no longer residing in the district.Permanent migration accounted for the largest share of deletions, suggesting that many people had moved to other districts or states for employment, education, business and other reasons.During the revision, verification of records revealed that 31,805 deceased individuals remained on the voter list. Their names are being removed through coordination between death registration records and the electoral roll.The revision also identified 16,636 duplicate entries, largely because some voters enrolled at a new address after relocating but failed to delete their names from the previous one. The Election Commission is removing such duplicate records to ensure each voter has only one electoral identity.By the end of July, 12,17,110 records had been digitised, although verification and digitisation of some forms remained pending.
