International Yoga Day: City bends, breathes and reflects
Vadodara marked International Yoga Day with a series of programmes

Vadodara: Vadodara marked International Yoga Day with a series of programmes across university campuses, temples, public gardens, community spaces and heritage sites on Sunday, drawing participation from people of all age groups.The celebrations followed the city’s 10th edition of the 108 Spiral Surya Namaskar, organised at Shiv Mahal Palace, where more than 400 participants completed the 108-minute yoga session.On Sunday, a large-scale yoga programme was held at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Atladara, while the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), in association with the Archaeological Survey of India’s Vadodara Circle and Heritage Trust Vadodara, organised yoga and Naad Yoga sessions at Hazira, the centrally protected monument.

With this year’s International Yoga Day theme focusing on healthy ageing, organisers highlighted the importance of preserving heritage structures while encouraging citizens to engage with them.Educational institutions, resident groups and community organisations conducted yoga demonstrations, meditation sessions and wellness activities across the city. At the Maharaja Sayajirao University’s Faculty of Performing Arts, students and teachers observed the day along with the World Music Day, through Omkar Sadhana, breathing exercises, swarabhyas and presentations of classical ragas, blending yoga and music in a unique Naad Yoga celebration.
