Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said upcoming biogas projects by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited will play a key role in managing agricultural waste in the state while boosting economic activity and employment opportunities.
The remarks came after Mann met HPCL Chairman and Managing Director Vikas Kaushal in Chandigarh to discuss investments in Punjab’s energy and petroleum sectors.
According to an official statement, HPCL is in the process of setting up 10 biogas plants across Punjab, five of which have already become operational.
Mann said the projects would help address the challenge of agricultural waste management, including crop residue, while also benefiting farmers and contributing to environmental protection.
“It is encouraging that HPCL has shown keen interest in investing in key sectors such as refinery and biogas in Punjab. These investments will significantly benefit the state by giving a major boost to economic activity and opening new avenues of employment for the youth,” he said.
The chief minister assured the company of full support from the state government and reiterated Punjab’s commitment to attracting investment and facilitating industrial expansion.
In a post on X, Mann said the meeting focused on new projects in the energy and petroleum sectors, accelerating industrial investment in Punjab, and creating fresh employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
He said the government was making sustained efforts to transform Punjab into one of the country’s most preferred destinations for industry and investment, adding that such engagements would help accelerate the state’s economic growth in the coming years.
