Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday warned government doctors against referring patients unnecessarily from hospitals, saying strict action would be taken if patients were referred despite the availability of treatment facilities.
He said the move was aimed at strengthening healthcare services across the state.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while addressing a public gathering in Jhajha in Bihar‘s Jamui district, where he unveiled a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar, Industries Minister Shreyasi Singh, Transport Minister Damodar Rawat and Jamui district in-charge minister Sanjay Kumar Singh were also present at the event.
Referring to the state’s healthcare system, Choudhary said the government had taken several measures to reduce the need for patients to be referred from one hospital to another.
“Since Nishant Kumar took charge of the Health Department, one of our biggest challenges has been the referral system in sub-divisional hospitals. We have decided that hospitals in every district should be equipped to perform 36 types of surgeries. Even after this, if any doctor refers a patient without justification, the department will take action,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the government’s objective was to ensure that patients received quality treatment within their own districts without having to travel elsewhere for medical care.
Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary also reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling the vision of a “prosperous Bihar” envisioned by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while aligning it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s vision of a developed India.
“I want to assure the people of Bihar that the dream Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel saw for the country, the vision of a developed India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the dream of a prosperous Bihar envisioned by Nitish Kumar are our government’s responsibility to fulfil,” he said.
‘WORK PROGRESSING IN ALL SECTORS’
Highlighting the government’s development agenda, Choudhary said work was progressing across sectors including electricity, transport, roads, education, healthcare and industrial development.
He also announced that the Bihar government planned to construct new bus stands at more than 100 locations across the state on land already available with the government.
The Chief Minister said the state government would continue expanding public infrastructure and healthcare services to improve the quality of life for people across Bihar.
