Home minister Chennithala orders fin assistance for cops who lost legs

Thiruvananthapuram: Home minister Ramesh Chennithala has directed the Police Welfare Bureau to provide financial assistance for the treatment of two police personnel who had to undergo leg amputations following a road accident during highway patrol duty in Kanhangad.An initial amount of Rs 5 lakh each will be sanctioned for the treatment of police officers Suraj and Aloysius, who are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru. The minister sought details regarding their health condition and directed officials to ensure they receive the best possible medical care.He also instructed the department to provide them with suitable postings when they are able to return to service. Assuring support for police personnel injured in the line of duty, Chennithala said the govt would stand by officers who meet with accidents while discharging their responsibilities.
