Noida: Greater Noida Authority will repair the Hindon bridge linking Parthala and Gaur Chowk, the busiest corridor between Noida and Greater Noida West, with traffic on the route to be disrupted for the next 45 days.The nearly 30-year-old bridge has seen significant deterioration of the road surface on both approaches, prompting the Authority to undertake urgent mastic repairs. To facilitate the work, one lane on the Parthala-to-Gaur Chowk carriageway will be closed. Traffic will be diverted through the remaining two lanes, which will stay in use until the first lane is restored. Repairs will then be taken up sequentially on the second and third lanes.On Monday, a trial of the revised arrangement was conducted, with the repair work formally getting underway from June 10 under work circle 7. Senior officials said traffic police will be deployed in the area to manage peak-hour snarls.Manish Kumar, a resident of Ecovillage 1 who uses the bridge daily to commute to Noida, said, “The road developed rough patches over the years and made for a bumpy ride. The repairs were long due.” But many, like Kumar, feel that funnelling traffic from Parthala to Gaur Chowk through just two lanes, especially in the evenings, will lead to massive tailbacks on the stretch.

The bridge closure compounds an existing pressure point. With the construction of a six-lane underpass at Gaur Chowk, traffic restrictions are already in place on the Taj Highway on both sides of the intersection. For residents of Greater Noida West, the twin disruptions arrived simultaneously. They are likely to add to the chaos at the intersection that serves more than five lakh residents and handles traffic from Noida, Surajpur, Crossings Republik and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.Punit Kohli, a resident of Saya Zion in Gaur City, said the roundabout already 30 to 40 minutes during peak hours. “The additional restrictions at Hindon bridge will slow things down further,” he said.Sumil Jalota, a resident of La Residentia, said the two simultaneous diversions would mean longer travel time. “There is already heavy traffic at this spot during peak hours. The diversion at two locations will further choke the area. Ideally, they should conduct the road repair works at night or in non-peak hours,” he said.
