Some of the top mainstream brands such as Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor are planning to bring in new dual-purpose adventure bikes across different segments
Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company prepare for all-new products looking to appeal to a different set of consumers in the dual-purpose adventure touring space. Hero is developing its biggest Xpulse yet while Bajaj has a new adventure tourer under evaluation following multiple spy sightings and TVS is bringing in the Norton range with the Atlas. Here we have explained them:
1. Hero Xpulse 420
Hero MotoCorp has been testing the Xpulse 420 for well over a year with prototypes spotted in Rajasthan, Ladakh and Europe. The motorcycle will occupy a more premium positioning than the Xpulse 210 and will become the company’s flagship adventure tourer. It is expected to rival the KTM 390 Adventure and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

The Xpulse 420 is expected to receive a newly developed 421 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing close to 40 hp and around 40 Nm – coupled with a six-speed gearbox and an assist and slipper clutch. Spy images have already revealed USD front forks, a rear monoshock, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, long-travel suspension, dual-purpose tyres, a larger fuel tank, high-mounted front mudguard, engine bash plate, knuckle guards, tall windscreen, luggage rack and split seats. The motorcycle is also expected to carry a TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, ride modes, switchable dual-channel ABS, LED lighting, etc.

2. Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle

Bajaj Auto has also intensified development of its first adventure motorcycle under its own brand. Heavily camouflaged test mules have been spotted on multiple occasions. Unlike the KTM Adventure range, which is sold through Bajaj’s partnership with KTM, the adv carries a distinct identity with unique styling, chassis tuning and positioning. It will be more of a dual-sport offering reportedly powered by a 250 cc engine.
3. TVS Norton Atlas
TVS Motor Company is targetting an entirely new middleweight platform through Norton Motorcycles with the Atlas expected to become one of the first production models for India. The motorcycle is being developed primarily for international markets before reaching India. It uses a 585cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine which develops 69 bhp at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm at 7,300 rpm.
