Haveri police arrest interstate thieves, recover property worth 1.1 crore

Haveri: Haveri and Dharwad district police cracked a jewellery shop theft case in Chikkanshi Hosur village, Hangal taluk and arrested two interstate thieves, recovering gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs 1.1 crore, SP Yashoda Vantagodi said.Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, SP said a case was registered on May 16, regarding the theft at a jewellery workshop in Chikkanshi Hosur village under the jurisdiction of Hangal police station. Four special teams from Hangal and Shiggaon subdivision were formed to recover the stolen items and track down the accused. “A theft case was registered last month in Kiresur village, Hubballi rural police judistriction. Hubballi rural police and Navalgund police collaborated with the special operation crime teams of Haveri district to apprehend the suspects,” the SP added.Police arrested Shivraj Hanumanthappa Modakeri from Balehosur in Lakshmeshwar taluk and Ashok alias Ramesh Shivappa Konchikoravar from Ambamath in Sindhanur taluk. “We seized 310g of gold ornaments, 26kg of silver ornaments and a Bolero vehicle from the accused, totalling about Rs 1.1 crore in value. Out of the six accused, two were caught, and search for the other four is ongoing. The first accused had six theft cases registered against him in Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal and Haveri districts,” she noted.SP Yashoda also informed that the accused had stolen a Bolero from Beechupalli, Gadwal district, Telangana, on May 14, and used it to carry out the theft at the jewellery workshop.The investigation was conducted by Shiggaon DSP Gurushantappa KV, Hangal CPI Basavaraj Halabannavar, PSI Sampatkumar Anikivi, Adur PSI Sharanappa Handragal, Bankapur PSI Manjunath Kuri, Shiggaon Yallappa Hiragannanavar, along with Hubballi rural and Navalgund police.
